Summary:
The Environmental Supervisor is responsible for the overall management of the housekeeping and laundry staff.
He/ She works to ensure that the facility is clean, organized, and free from clutter and trash and that laundry operations occur timely and per regulation.
One Environmental Supervisor may be over both Housekeeping and Laundry Departments or two employees may split the responsibilities.
This description includes responsibilities for these departments collectively, but specific duties are outlined separately.
Duties under Environmental applies to both the Housekeeping Supervisor and Laundry Supervisor positions.
DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
The following represents the essential functions of the Environmental Supervisor's role.
This list is intended to be a general description of duties and responsibilities; however, it is subject to change according to the needs of the facility determined by the Administrator or corporate designee.
Housekeeping:
The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for the overall management of the housekeeping workforce.
The Housekeeping Supervisor coordinates cleaning schedule and assignment for resident rooms and bathrooms, dining areas, shower rooms, hallways, offices, meeting rooms, common areas, and storage areas.
Cleaning schedules should be organized to be most effective and efficient.
The Housekeeping Supervisor will evaluate the effectiveness of cleaning schedules, cleaning equipment, and cleaning products.
The Housekeeping Supervisor works with Housekeepers closely to maintain high standards of cleanliness making frequent rounds on the halls and assisting hands- on when needed.
The Housekeeping Supervisor evaluates equipment used by the housekeeping staff to ensure working order, cleanliness, and safety (housekeeping carts, scrubbing machines, buffing machines, mixing units, etc.
).
The Housekeeping Supervisor may organize the cleaning of resident equipment.
The Housekeeping Supervisor will assist during emergencies especially with creating staffing teams, keeping the facility clean and safe, and management of supplies.
Laundry:
The Laundry Supervisor is responsible for the overall management of the laundry workforce.
The Laundry Supervisor coordinates laundry services including gathering, sorting, washing, drying, folding, hanging, and return of resident clothing and linens.
Services should be organized to be most effective and efficient.
The Laundry Supervisor will evaluate the effectiveness of the laundry schedule, equipment, and detergents.
The Laundry Supervisor works with Laundry Aides closely to maintain organization, cleanliness, and timely service assisting hands-on when needed.
The Laundry Supervisor evaluates equipment used by the laundry staff to ensure working order, cleanliness, and safety (laundry carts, washers, dryers, mixing units, etc.
).
The Laundry Supervisor makes sure clothes are properly labeled ensuring resident dignity is maintained.
The Laundry Supervisor will post signage on resident's closet if family members are doing the resident's laundry.
The Laundry Supervisor will assist during emergencies especially with creating staffing teams and keeping clean linens and clothing available.
Environmental (applies to housekeeping and laundry):
The Environmental Supervisor trains new hires and assigns appropriate orientation training by other housekeepers or laundry aides.
The Environmental Supervisor ensures chemicals are used according to manufacturer guidelines, are properly stored and labeled, and adequate stock is available for staff use.
The Environmental Supervisor ensures the MDS (Material Data Sheet) Binder is current and available in the work areas and that staff are aware of locations in the event of an incident.
The Environmental Supervisor plays a key role in safety and hazard elimination within the facility for residents and staff.
The Environmental Supervisor reports hazards to maintenance and Administration as appropriate.
The Environmental Supervisor completes employee evaluations in writing per policy and provides verbal constructive and positive feedback regularly.
The Environmental Supervisor documents in-service training, one on one counseling, and disciplinary action taken.
The Environmental Supervisor completes competencies for each employee upon hire, annually, and as needed.
The Environmental Supervisor maintains the department work schedule(s), assignment of duties, approving and denying requests off, documenting excused and unexcused absences, documenting tardiness and early quit, documents call-ins, shift swaps, and no-call/ no-shows, and oversees break schedules.
The Environmental Supervisor may oversee the purchasing, stocking, and monitoring of supplies while being aware of budget expectations.
The Environmental Supervisor is responsible for reporting departmental needs to the Administrator.
The Environmental Supervisor contributes to residents' care plans and implements them as needed.
The Environmental Supervisor participates in Daily QA (morning) Meetings, Monthly/ Quarterly QA, Safety Committee Meetings, Resident Council Meetings when requested, Care Plan Meetings, in-service trainings, QAPI program, continuing education programs, and all other meetings called by Legacy or licensing entities.
The Environmental Supervisor is a member of the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT Team).
The Environmental Supervisor promotes resident rights and dignity.
The Environmental Supervisor promotes a positive, professional work environment.
Must be available via telephone with reasonable response time or notify the Administrator, corporate designee, or appropriate facility staff prior to unavailability.
Works beyond normal working hours (occasionally on weekends, holidays, and after hours) and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
Must act in ways that promote professional and positive representation of the facility to the community.
Communicates in a professional and courteous manner using effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills with residents, their families, co-workers, and vendors.
Maintains confidentiality of department, resident, employee information, communication, and documentation as well as compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.
Clocks in and out for all working/training hours.
Working off the clock will not be permitted at any time or for any reason.
Maintain compliance with Legacy's Compliance program and plan.
Adhere to Legacy's Code of Conduct and Dress Code.
These duties are not all-inclusive but provide minimum performance expectations which will be reviewed in the evaluation process.
Supervisor may edit, alter, add to, or exclude duties and responsibilities based on the needs of the facility.
QUALIFICATIONS/ EXPERIENCE/ REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Qualificationso Freedom from illegal use of drugs.
o Freedom from use and effects of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.
o Anyone found guilty by a court of law of abusing, neglecting or mistreating individuals in a health care related setting are ineligible for employment in the position.
Education and/or Experienceo Experience in Long-Term care setting preferred but not required.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
